A Safer Alternative to Bleach

A Natural Safer Alternative to Bleach is hydrogen peroxide. This common household disinfectant is likely sitting in your bathroom medicine cabinet. Commonly used to combat infections in wounds this amazing disinfectant can also be used for most of your household cleaning chores, remove stains or to whiten any dingy whites in your laundry. Below is a very simple yet effective DIY example of using hydrogen peroxide to remove stains on a white formica counter top using hydrogen peroxide and baking soda as a mild abrasive.

This photo shows yellowish stains left behind from food spills. Since bleach is quite toxic and when used on formica can leave permanent yellowing stains a safer more natural cleaning option is hydrogen peroxide. Adding Bon Ami or Baking Soda ads a gentle abrasive action while cleaning these stains.

Once the hydrogen peroxide and baking soda have been applied to the stain allow to sit for about 20 minutes then gently rub with the scrubby side of a sponge and wipe clean with a microfiber cloth and water.

Ta da! No bleach! No dangerous chemicals used!
