Lavender Sweet Orange Home Cleaning now offers another all natural way to clean your home by harvesting the power of steam. For many of us "steam cleaning" conjures up images of the old Stanley Steemer Carpet Cleaning commercials, however steam cleaning has a myriad of other uses. It helps loosen dirt, grease and grime with only water in the bathroom, kitchen, on tile floors, and any other hard to reach surface. It's a fantastic method to use in tight spaces where dirt and mold collect such as between bathroom fixtures, toilet hinges, and shower doors tracks. It's also effective in breaking down tough grease in the kitchen especially on the stove top.

Steam cleaning tile and grout is yet another great way to clean green without any chemical products and minimal scrubbing. If you have ever lived in a home that has tile flooring you may have battled with the discoloration that inevitably occurs along the grout lines. Grout is a porous material that collects dirt and often becomes discolored. Regular vacuuming and mopping alone are not enough to prevent or remove the dirt and grime that builds up within the grout lines over time. Fortunately harvesting the power of steam can often remove the dirt embedded in your grout returning it to its natural color.

 Steam cleaning in those tough to reach areas around and between the sink faucet let loose loads of mold and grime

All Natural Cleaner:

Creating your very own all natural all purpose household cleaner is ridiculously easy, inexpensive, and fun. 

Here's what you will need:

1. One or two plastics spray bottles, you may choose to purchase one at Target, your local grocery store or simply recycle one you already have which I did. Make sure to clean them well first.

2. An airtight container such as a mason jar or other glass container with a tight seal. I found mine at Walmart for around $8.00.

3. Regular household white vinegar. 

4. Lemon, grapefruit, or orange peels, just enough to fill your container. I chose orange peels as I had  just juiced several prior to making this but any if these will add a nice scent and provide an extra cleaning boost.

Here are your ever so simple directions to making a wonderful and inexpensive all-purpose cleaner!

First fill your air tight jar with citrus peels of your choice and then fill your jar up with vinegar. The most difficult part now is closing your air tight lid tightly and waiting patiently for your citrus peels and vinegar to sit undisturbed for two weeks! Mark your calendar and admire your beautiful jar by placing on your counter.

Below is a picture of my orange peels and vinegar after two weeks. 

Now for the fun part! You will need a strainer and a measuring cup.  Simply pour your mixture into your measuring cup and strain out the peels. I made just over 2 cups and decided to use a 1:1 ratio for my cleaning. So using two 35oz spray bottles, I filled each with 16oz of distilled water to reduce mineral buildup although this is optional. 

I then added 16oz of my vinegar solution and about 15 to 20 drops of lavender essential oil to help offset some of the lingering vinegar odor. Adding essential oils is optional however keep in mind that it will add a wonderful boost to the cleaning power of your all purpose cleaner.
