How to Deodorize Your Carpet Naturally

If your carpets have been invaded by pet odors and other noxious smells you may want to consider applying a natural carpet deodorizer.  Many commercial carpet deodorizers contain mostly synthetic fragrances that merely mask odors, are bad for the environment, and can be irritating to your respiratory system. For a safer more effective and less costly alternative you can make your own carpet deodorizer from ingredients you likely have already in your kitchen. So let's get started!

What you will need:

1. 1-2 cups baking soda
(Baking soda is a natural deodorizer)
2. 20 drops of your favorite essential oil such as lavender although (optional)

Mix the essential oils into the baking soda using a non metal fork or spoon(metal can react with essential oils) until there are no lumps. When applying to your carpet use a sifter or an empty cleaned out Parmesan cheese container. The small holes will make it easier to apply your all natural carpet deodorizer evenly across your carpets.

Preparing your carpets:

1. Pick-up any objects and move furniture such as couches if desired in order to coat as much of your carpets as possible.
2. Vacuum your carpet prior to applying your deodorizer to remove dirt and open up the carpet fibers.

3. Sprinkle a generous amount of your carpet deodorizer over your carpets and allow to sit for several hours or over night if possible. The longer the better since this will allow the baking soda to absorb any odors lingering in your carpets.
4. Lastly, thoroughly vacuum up all of your deodorizer and enjoy your odor free carpets!

The benefits of using baking soda to deodorize your carpets are:

~Inexpensive
~Safe/all natural
~No synthetic fragrances that may irritate your respiratory system
~Baking soda removes odors by absorbing, not covering them

How to Unclog a Slow Drain

I love this easy and inexpensive way to unclog a slow drain. Please note that this DIY method will not work on a completely clogged drain. In some instances a bad clog may need to be snaked. However if your drain is draining slowly then give this old but effective method a try, it's easy, inexpensive, and more environmentally friendly then liquid Drano. Chances are you probably already have these ingredients in your home. So let's get started!

What you will need:

1.  1 cup of white vinegar
2.  4 Alka-Selter tablets (there are 2 in each packet)
3. 1-2 cups hot water

Directions…if you even need them right, hehe…

1. Drop your 4 tablets into your drain
2. Add one cup of vinegar and let it fizzle for several minutes as this reaction is the premises of loosening all that nasty gunk in your drain.

3. Lastly, add your hot (boiling) water after all that fizzling has dissipated.

And tada!! Enjoy! Hopefully your drain is flowing quicker. If your still noticing that it's moving slowly don't get discouraged just yet. Repeat this process again or try adding about 1/4 cup baking soda to your drain followed by a cup of warm/hot vinegar. There will be a lovely chemical reaction as above. Once the fizzy sounds have subsided add 1-2 cups of very hot water to your drain. Happy Unclogging!!
