Before and After Pictures

Before and After cleaning pictures

Using just household white vinegar soaked in orange peels with Lavender essential oils I created or rather replicated (thank you Pinterest:) a super easy all natural household cleaner for just pennies on the dollar. If you missed how to make this easy cleaner click here for step by step directions.

So drum roll please….below are before pictures of a very very dirty bathroom. It just screams Bleach and Lysol doesn't it? However as we all know these cleaning choices are extremely toxic not only to breathe and touch but also to our environment. So why not try a simple homemade cleaner that's both safe and effective? Chances are you have all these things in your kitchen already! And vinegar although it is not pleasant to smell, has amazing cleaning properties and did I mention it's great against soap scum?

See for yourself how well this cleaner actually worked. The brown powder seen below is makeup and although it was easy to wipe off initially, it left behind a light brown stain. To combat this I sprayed my vinegar solution directly on the stain and let it sit for about ten minutes while I worked on the bathtub.

Here is the after photo. I must admit I was a bit surprised that I was able to remove the stain without much effort. However should you need a mild abrasive in this situation just sprinkle on some Arm & Hammer pure baking soda or whatever brand you have on hand. It will react with the vinegar creating a mild foaming reaction. Allow it to sit for a few minutes then gently lather into a paste and scrub until the stain has been lifted.

Now for the bathtub. Because it has not been draining properly water builds up after each use and soap scum mixed with hair have has left a thick buildup all around the bathtub. Since water was pooling around the clogged drain I had to clean small sections at a time so that when I rinsed there would not be a pool of dirty water in my way. So here is the before picture, unfortunately this picture does not do it justice.

It really was filthy and although it took some persistent scrubbing I was absolutely thrilled with how it turned out!

Vinegar really is an amazing and effective cleaner. Adding the orange peels and the Lavender essential oils gave it a cleaning boost but just as important to me helped lesson the strong vinegar smell. If you can stomach the vinegar smell while your cleaning rest assured once it dries the smell is GONE!
